1 〔何であるか〕 what it is.

●あの山の上の白い物が何だかわかりますか. Do you know what that white stuff on top of the mountain is?

・何が何だかさっぱりわからない. We don't know what's what.

2 〔少々〕 somewhat; a little; 《口》 kind [sort] of; 〔なぜかわからないが〕 somehow (or other); for some reason (or other). [⇒なんとなく, なんか⁵ 2]

●なんだか気にかかる. Somehow I feel uneasy (about it). | It bothers me somehow.

・なんだかきまりが悪い. I feel kind [sort] of embarrassed [self-conscious].

・なんだか疲れた. I feel tired for some reason.
